Our premarital counseling at Inspired MFT is designed to empower couples to create a relationship rooted in understanding and mutual respect. Through a structured 8-week program grounded in proven principles, you will learn effective communication strategies, conflict management techniques, and ways to align your shared values and long-term goals. This program is ideal for couples who want to proactively strengthen their relationship before tying the knot or during early marriage stages.
This structured approach is designed to maximize growth without feeling overwhelming. Couples have time between sessions to integrate new skills, reflect on their relationship patterns, and build lasting habits. By the end of the program, partners walk away with a deeper understanding of one another, stronger communication tools, and a clear, shared framework for navigating challenges and maintaining connection over time.
This week is focused on building rapport between the couple and therapist. We will explore individual concerns that each partner may bring into session.
We will spend some time reviewing the assessment results both individually and together to assure accuracy of results for areas of strengths between the couple and areas that we can work on in session.
Week 3 begins with the exploration of conflict patterns that have arisen. The couple will work on how to better accept influence healthier conflict resolution for a faster repair.
Week 4 begins with an overview of attachment styles. We will explore past influences and patterns of attachment within relationships.
This week is all about talking about how we relate to money, are personal style of handling finances, & our expectation of roles within the relationship.
Week 6 explores the family of origin norms that each partner in the couple will bring into the relationship. We will discuss family planning and expectations for each partner. We will also review agreed boundaries between the couple and how cultural norms can play a role in our relationship and expectations.
In week 7 we will talk about sexual values, expectations, and communication comfort around this topic. This can be an uncomfortable topic for some so it is intentionally placed within the program to allow for rapport to be build before we work through this potential challenge in the relationship.
Our final week within the program will be spent in reflection over the past skill building achievements and areas of growth. We will also explore more areas of potential growth that may benefit the couple to continue working through. We will close the session discussing how to best manage future conflict.
